Gustavus Adolphus College orientation video
Two takes on the above Gustavus Adolphus College (ELCA) orientation video:
- Richard Spencer at Alternative Right calls it a “hokey indoctrination skit” and suggests it’s one of the signs of the end of Western civilization [link].
- Jordan Lorence at Speak Up calls it several things, all of them bad, while reminding us that our Constitution protects free speech [link].
The latter post has been updated and now concludes
It is tragic that a respected private school like Gustavus, supposedly founded to promote Biblical values from the Lutheran faith, would promote skits that glorify atheism and sex outside of marriage.
I don’t have much to add here; does anyone really believe colleges exist to reinforce what students already believe any more? And by the same token, does anyone take freshman orientation skits seriously? I had to go through first-year orientation twice (once in college, once in graduate school) and my recollection is that both of them were opportunities to learn I was surrounded by people who took themselves way too seriously.
